The Raggedy Rawney

Synopsis: In a war-torn European country, Tom, a raw recruit, is terrified and traumatised by the horror of battle. In panic, he deserts, attacking and wounding his commanding officer in the process.
Struck dumb by his experiences and disguised as a young raggedy woman, he falls in with a band of roving gypsies led by Darky. They think the 'girl' is a witch- a Rawney- but nevertheless allow him to stay.
Only one person in the tribe knows his real identity- Jessie- Darky's daughter. They become lovers for a while and find fleeting happiness.
In time though, the war reappears to haunt both Tom and the gypsies with devastating results.
