Case history:
Clare Thomson asks actor Dexter Fletcher about his suitcase secrets
Describe the suitcase you use most often.
I've just bought a large blue case with wheels. I've also got a black leather Dunhill holdall for shorter journeys.
What always goes with you?
I don't need home comforts but I like taking my wife. We are both so busy that going on holiday gives us time for ourselves.
How long does it take you to pack?
My wife does it for me. It takes a day as she's very organised and puts everything into plastic bags. It creates problems if I get involved as she has to take everything out and start again.
What is the biggest packing mistake you've made?
Taking lots of heavy pots and pans to LA. We were going for six months and thought we'd need most of our kitchen utensils. We only used half of them.
If you could pack only three things, what would they be?
My laptop so that I can keep working, a squash racquet and a museum guide to whichever city I'm going to.
If you could take only one book, what would it be?
Nick Hornby's High Fidelity.
Have you ever lost your luggage?
No, I've been lucky.
Which luggage stamp brings back the best memories?
Venice over New Year. It had been a hard year for work and my wife and I hadn't spent much time together so it really was special.
What extra things come home in your suitcase?
Cheese and I invariably go clothes shopping.
Which destination would you next like to put on your luggage label?
On safari in Africa.
